Lancaster Central Market

Market
23 N Market St, Lancaster, PA 17603

The beating heart of downtown Lancaster and, by most accounts, the oldest continuously operating public market in the country — vendors have been setting up on this spot for the better part of three centuries, with the grand brick market house dating to 1889. Inside: 50-plus stalls of local everything, from produce and meats to baked goods, prepared food, and crafts. It runs three mornings a week (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday), and it's as much a social ritual as a grocery run — you go for the horseradish and the sticky buns and end up chatting your way down every aisle. Come hungry, bring cash and a tote, and give yourself more time than you think you need. A genuine Lancaster institution, and rightfully so.
