The Carl Zeplin & Tim Gross Jazz Duo at Proof

featuring

Lower Level, 30 N Queen St, Lancaster, PA 17603
A speakeasy-style cocktail bar sitting under 30 North Queen, and the only tell is a small Proof sign over a metal staircase heading below the sidewalk. Down there it's rustic stone walls against sleek modern furniture — a basement that drinks way above its station. The cocktails take swings and land them: the South Frog runs gin with tomato, basil, parmesan vermouth, and pepper oil. LNP's bar writers said the food alone is worth the trip even if you're not drinking cocktails, which is about the highest compliment a bar kitchen gets. Walk slow on Queen Street or you'll blow right past the sign.

Proof
Proof didn't start as a bar — the basement under 30 N Queen St used to be a fitness studio before Ecklin Development Group gutted it in 2022 and found a former bank vault waiting underneath. That's the room The Carl Zeplin & Tim Gross Jazz Duo plays tonight, 6 to 9 PM: stone walls, a brick archway, low light, and a staircase easy to miss unless you're looking for it. The transformation kept the vault's bones and added a drink list that goes deep — 500+ spirits, whiskey-forward, with rare Irish and Japanese pours alongside everyday sippers. Order off the classics or try the South Frog (gin, tomato, basil, parmesan vermouth, pepper oil) while the duo works through a set built for a room this intimate. LNP's bar writers said the food alone is worth the trip — mushroom risotto and crab cakes back that up. No cover, just the stairs and the sound of upright bass carrying through a vault built to keep things quiet.
