Line Dance with JW at West Art

featuring

816 Buchanan Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603
West Art took over the former St. Peter's United Church of Christ on Buchanan Ave in 2023, when West End neighbors Josh Gibbel and Rufus Deakin turned 15,000 square feet of church into an art bar and music hall. Touring acts roll through its two stages — David Ramirez and Low Cut Connie's Adam Weiner have both played here, some shows co-presented with WXPN. Between concerts it runs Drink & Draw, mahjong and chess nights, and SPiLL, the monthly LGBTQ+ social. The coffee bar pours Nostalgica, roasted a few blocks away on Grant Street. Catch a show in the Sanctuary if you can — stained glass over a stage is a hard combo to beat.

West Art's City Hall room picks up a two-step with Line Dance with JW. No experience required — a beginner lesson kicks things off at 6 PM, then the floor opens for a couple hours of open dancing, all skill levels welcome, no partner needed. It's a $10 suggested donation at the door (cash or Venmo), and the Art Bar's got you covered the whole time with espresso, beer, wine, and cocktails just off the floor. It's the kind of low-stakes, come-as-you-are night that fits right in at a former 1920s church that Josh Gibbel and Rufus Deakin turned into Lancaster's most unlikely dance hall — grab a Nostalgica pour beforehand or a cocktail after, and don't worry about knowing the steps going in.
