Jerry Lee Watkins closes out October at Proof with a 6-to-9-PM set of live guitar and vocals in one of Lancaster's most deliberately hidden rooms. The only clue from the sidewalk on Queen Street is a small Proof sign over a staircase heading down; below is a converted former bank vault — rustic stone against sleek modern furniture, a brick archway, and a bar list that runs past 500 spirits deep, from approachable pours to a 25-year Dalmore for special occasions. Order small plates — mushroom risotto, crab cakes, oysters — or lean on the cocktail list; the South Frog (gin, tomato, basil, parmesan vermouth, pepper oil) is the one locals keep pointing newcomers toward. Let Watkins's set carry the room and stay as long as the pour list keeps tempting you. No cover.
