Where
Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse
Zoetropolis trades its usual screen-first format for an author night on September 23, when novelist Alma Katsu takes the North Water Street stage to talk about Incarnate — her terrifying reimagining of The Picture of Dorian Gray for the internet age. The evening opens at 6:00 pm with Katsu discussing the novel, followed by audience Q&A and a book signing, before the room settles in for a 7:30 pm screening of The Substance, a film that shares Incarnate's appetite for body horror and beauty gone wrong. It's a pairing that makes full use of what this indie cinema, distillery, and bar does best — literary conversation, a proper film screening, and a bar pouring the whole time, all under one Downtown Lancaster roof. Horror fans get a rare chance to hear directly from an author working in the genre before watching a film that speaks the same language, and the four-hour run time leaves plenty of room for both halves to breathe. Adult tickets are $15 for an evening built for readers and cinephiles alike.
